Expansion gets underway on Pinellas homeless compound

A temporary homeless shelter in Pinellas County is expanding.

pinellashope2Construction on Pinellas Hope II, the second phase of the homeless compound in St. Petersburg, got underway Friday.

The second phase will feature 80 permanent housing units on the 10-acre site. It will also have a community center for meals, services and medical care.

Catholic Charities said the $4-million project was mostly funded by state grants.
